About the Opportunity

The Referral Officer is the first point of entry for all surgical referrals within Nova Scotia Health. The Referral Officer builds trust with the referring/receiving providers, patients and families to ensure they have the confidence that all referrals will he managed appropriately and expeditiously. The Referral Officer must understand the impact. have advanced skills in communication, priority setting, organization. judgement, collaboration and coordination. Due to the critical nature of this role, attention to detail is required to ensure a) appropriate review and routing of referrals and b) all relevant patient care information is available to facilitate the consult visit with the clinician regarding the discussion of treatment options.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 required
  • One-year post-secondary medical office administration program
  • Two (2) years' related experience required
  • Organize the day-to-day operations of the central intake office
  • Receive, analyse and prioritize referrals based on urgency and/or specific directions
  • Receive telephone calls around referral wait times and status
  • Collect contact information, track information in a database, coordinate appointments, and pass along relevant information to the physicians
  • Provide general information and listens in a compassionate and supportive manner regarding patient's fears and anxieties and redirects to the appropriate member of the team
  • Performs other administrative duties related to central intake of perioperative services
  • Order supplies, organize correspondence and forms
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent Full-Time/ 70 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Incentives

$20.36 - $23.14 Hourly
