The Corporation of the Town of Blind River is seeking a customer-focused, detail-oriented professional to join our Corporate Services team as Accounting Clerk I – Tax Clerk.
Reporting to the Treasurer, this position plays an important role in delivering municipal financial services, with primary responsibility for property taxation, accounts receivable, customer service, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the Treasury Department.
What You'll Do
As the Tax Clerk, you will:
Administer the Town's property tax billing process, including interim, final, supplementary and omitted tax billings. Process property tax adjustments, write-offs, refunds, penalty and interest adjustments, and tax-related applications. Maintain assessment, ownership, mortgage company and pre-authorized payment records. Process tax payments received in person, by mail, online banking and other payment methods. Balance tax and accounts receivable subledgers and prepare month-end and year-end reports. Prepare tax certificates and tax statements for lawyers, financial institutions and property owners. Respond to inquiries from residents, legal representatives, mortgage companies and other stakeholders with professionalism and excellent customer service. Prepare invoices, process accounts receivable transactions, and maintain customer accounts. Provide front counter customer service, receive payments, and assist with general Treasury administration. Provide backup support for Accounts Payable/Payroll and Water/Sewer Billing functions as required. Perform other related duties in support of the Treasury Department.

Qualifications
Required Skills:
The Successful Candidate Will Possess
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in accounting, municipal taxation, accounts receivable, banking or financial administration. Knowledge of municipal taxation principles and relevant legislation is considered an asset. Successful completion of the Ontario Municipal Tax Administration Program (OMTRA) is considered an asset. Completion of the AMCTO Municipal Accounting and Finance Program is considered an asset. Experience with municipal financial software (iCity/Vadim or similar ERP systems) is considered an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook. Strong mathematical, analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven customer service skills and the ability to deal tactfully and professionally with the public. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a team environment. Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
