Current Shifts: 0700-1500, 1500-2300, 2300-0700, 0800-1600 and 0930-1330 on weekends only

Position Summary:
The Telecommunications department is a vital service providing essential communication links in a timely, professional and efficient manner to both internal and external clients through switchboard, paging services, information desk, alarm monitoring and dispatching of emergency codes and physician on- call roster.
As a member of the Telecommunications department, the Switchboard Operator is responsible to provide services to clients by facilitating communications at Guelph General Hospital through rapid, accurate and courteous processing of all calls. The Switchboard Operator receives and disseminates all incoming calls and monitors and responds to all alarms in the hospital. The Switchboard Operator maintains a high level of customer service with visitors, patients, families, external agencies, employees, students, volunteers and medical staff.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous switchboard experience (hospital environment preferred)
- High school diploma
- Meditech computer experience an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and with composing e-mails with a high level of accuracy
- Proficient keyboarding skills
- Excellent reading, writing and listening skills
- Comfortable making overhead announcements with clear pronunciation
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proven ability to provide excellent customer service in a high volume environment
- Demonstrated organizational, priority setting and record keeping skills
- Proven ability to make decisions in pressure situations
- Excellent communication and public relations skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
