This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in attention to detail, and wants to build a long-term career in the fire protection industry. We provide paid training, mentorship, and practical experience designed to help you work toward becoming an ASTTBC Registered Fire Protection Technician with a Portable Fire Extinguisher (EX) Endorsement. About the Role As a Shop Technician, you'll help ensure portable fire extinguishers and related equipment are inspected, tested, serviced, and maintained in accordance with industry standards and fire code requirements. You'll also assist with warehouse organization, shipping and receiving, local deliveries, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient shop environment. This role works closely with technicians, warehouse staff, office staff, and walk-in customers and plays an important part in helping protect people and property throughout our communities.
What You'll Do
Fire Protection Equipment Service Inspect, test, service, and repair portable fire extinguishers and related equipment. Maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records. Learn and follow NFPA 10, BC Fire Code, and company service procedures.
Shop & Warehouse Support Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe. Receive incoming shipments and verify quantities and condition. Assist with inventory organization and warehouse stocking. Handle dangerous goods in accordance with TDG requirements (training provided).
Deliveries & Vehicle Support Complete local deliveries and pickups using company vehicles. Transport vehicles for scheduled maintenance and service. Maintain tools, equipment, and assist with vehicle upkeep.
Customer Service & Teamwork Provide exceptional service to walk-in customers and internal teams. Communicate professionally and respectfully with customers, vendors, and coworkers. Participate in safety meetings, training, and hazard assessments. Support service, warehouse, and yard operations as required.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driving record. Reliable transportation to and from work. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate records. Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements Ability to regularly lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Comfortable standing and walking throughout the day. Ability to bend, twist, reach, climb ladders, and perform physical work in a shop environment. Comfortable working around noise, dust, moving equipment, and industrial shop conditions with appropriate PPE.
Preferred Qualifications Mechanical aptitude or experience working with tools and equipment. Interest in building a career in fire protection, safety, or mechanical services. Experience in warehouse, shipping/receiving, service, or industrial environments is an asset but not required.
