The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for two (2) temporary full-time Customer Service Representative in the Customer Services division. These temporary full-time opportunities are for a period up to December 2026. This position will be required to work at all Municipal Centres throughout Chatham-Kent.

Job description

Customer Service Representatives act as ambassadors for the Municipality by delivering high quality, front-line customer service on behalf of all municipal departments through a variety of channels. This role is responsible for the provision of exceptional customer service by handling community member inquires, providing information on municipal services, processing requests, and resolving complaints.

Essential responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
  • Deliver high-quality customer service on behalf of all municipal departments via phone, email, and chat in a timely and professional manner
  • Provide complete and accurate information regarding various municipal services and departments, coordinate and log service requests, and resolve customer complaints by providing appropriate solutions and alternatives
  • Process applications, registrations, licenses, passes, and permits efficiently and accurately
  • Accurately handle cash, credit/debit card, mobile and other forms of payment and complete daily reconciliation processes
  • Provide ServiceOntario provincial services including the issuance of Ontario health cards and driver and vehicle licenses
  • Maintain databases and customer accounts, commission documents, and coordinate special event applications
  • Follow-up with customers to ensure resolution and satisfaction
  • Work closely with internal teams to provide high-quality service, resolve customer issues, and improve overall customer experience

Essential qualifications

  • College certificate or diploma, with two (2) to four (4) years of related experience
  • Call centre and customer service experience, preferably in a municipal or other government environment
  • Sound knowledge of municipal government structure, programs, and publications
  • Experience processing applications, registrations, licenses, passes, and permits preferred
  • Numerical accuracy required for payment processing and reconciliation
  • Strong technical ability required to operate large databases-and numerous software programs
  • Proficiency in English (both oral and written) required
  • Strong telephone skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner
  • Advanced time management, prioritization, and organization skills required
  • Working knowledge of the following software programs: iceBar, Central Square, Questica PerfectMind, JD Edwards, SkyHawk, GeoCortex, D365 CRM, Transit fare, SharePoint and Water Exchange, ServiceOntario software programs, social media, etc.
  • Strong computer skills required, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or similar software program)

Other qualifications

  • Proficiency in French (both oral and written) an asset
  • Knowledge of complaint and conflict resolution techniques an asset

Work environment/hours of work

  • This position works indoors

Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements

Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's licence with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.

Background check requirements

Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check.  

Essential physical and/or safety requirements

  • Sitting: constant sitting in a chair (sitting at desk most of the workday; occasionally required to drive to another office for meetings, training, municipal centres)
  • Reaching: frequent handling; constant reaching below shoulder, forward (phones, print of sale machines, receipts, correspondence with customers at counter, etc.)
  • Hands: constant fine finger dexterity (movement), mousing (point of sale machines, phones, copier, printer, fax, data entry, calculations, writing, filing, stamping, etc.)

Benefits

This temporary full-time position has an hourly wage of $35.955 to $40.661 and will receive 15% in lieu of benefits (which includes group benefits, statutory & non-statutory holidays, and non-enrolment in OMERS) and 4% vacation pay. Where a permanent employee is receiving benefits and is the successful candidate for a temporary vacancy, benefits will remain as per the policy manual.

When internal employees are applying to temporary vacancy and want to maintain their permanent status: positions posted as “temporary” may be filled with permanent employees (full-time, part-time and call-in) who want to keep their permanent status provided their ability to be released to a temporary position is reviewed and approved with their current manager/supervisor before submitting an application.
