About the Role:
Join ATCO Gas as an Emergency Communications Representative supporting our 24/7 operations centre in Edmonton. In this fast-paced, safety-critical role, you’ll be the first point of contact for emergency and service-related requests, gathering key information, assessing urgency, coordinating dispatch and work orders, and providing clear guidance to callers. You’ll collaborate closely with field crews, internal teams, and emergency services to ensure accurate, timely communication and effective response. What You’ll Do:
- Receive, assess, and prioritize emergency and service requests across multiple channels, following established procedures to dispatch the right resources quickly and accurately.
- Review requests from internal partners, then triage, assign, and track work to support timely field response.
- Provide clear pre-arrival safety guidance and post-dispatch instructions to callers, ensuring information is understood and documented.
- Monitor Work Alone Program notifications and respond promptly, escalating concerns in accordance with protocol.
- Coordinate field response by dispatching and tracking crews and contractors to support safe, efficient restoration and service delivery.
- Create and assign work orders, confirming required details are complete and accurate before dispatching to employees.
- Escalate complex or high-risk situations to the Supervisor or on-call senior leader, as required.
- Communicate professionally with the public, applying a respectful, inclusive, and non-judgmental approach in every interaction.
What You Bring:
- Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
- Emergency Response Communication Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in emergency communications.
- Strong computer skills. Using multiple monitors and systems simultaneously is required. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Maximo, OFS, and mapping software would be an asset.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting maps and coordinates.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain focus, attention to detail, and make critical decisions under pressure.
- Must have strong record keeping, documentation and organizational skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with a strong focus on clarity, professionalism, and customer service.
- Mature judgment and responsible work habits. Ability to remain calm in high-stress situations. Time management and organizational skills with an ability to coordinate and prioritize workload and meet deadlines including dealing effectively with a heavy workload.
- Proven decision-making skills, demonstrating sound judgment and problem-solving under pressure.
- Strong work ethic and self-initiative; ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- This position is a Safety-Sensitive position and has additional pre-employment requirements as identified in the Alcohol & Drug policy.
Operational Requirements:
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including 12 hours and overnight when necessary
