PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Supervisor provides services in a manner consistent with KHSC Mission, Vision and Values and that reflects the core values of Patient and Family Centered Care (dignity, respect, information sharing, participation, and collaboration). Central Ambulance Communications Centers (CACCs) are mission critical, technologically complex workplaces providing the initial access point to Ontario’s emergency health services systems for victims of illness or injury.

The Supervisor works out of a CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) console on the dispatch floor and are primarily responsible for real-time supervision of Ambulance Communication Centre operations. This includes:

  • Actively monitoring 911 call taking and Dispatching activities
  • Ensuring tiering of local resources
  • Ensuring compliance with all governing policies and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) deployment plans
  • Liaising with EMS duty officers, KCACC Operations Managers, and Regional Field Office
  • Performing short notice call-ins to ensure adequate staffing levels
  • Monitoring and providing support to prevent / reduce mental health injury and illness

Supervisor may be required to perform additional call processing duties as required when KCACC resources are overwhelmed.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Monitoring and ensuring the processing of all 911 emergency and nonemergency calls and the dispatching of EMS resources compliant with all applicable legislation, performance standards, CACC policies and procedures and EMS deployment plan
  • Liaising with multiple stakeholders – police, fire, coast guard, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, EMS, public, hospitals, Ornge (assist in the coordination of the air ambulance response), other CACC’s, MOH Field Manager, coroners, municipal services i.e. road dept.
  • Administration – call close, caution notes, performance management, incidents reports, data collection and reporting, preliminary complaint and investigation reporting, burn permits, road closures, ongoing operational reporting/updates to management group.
  • Staffing - Conflict resolution, staff development, personnel supervision
  • Ensuring that all communication equipment is fully operational, maintain a high level of knowledge and troubleshooting techniques on all CACC equipment and reporting issues appropriately.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary education program (i.e. university degree or minimum 2-year college diploma).

  • Must be currently qualified for employment as an EMD by the IAED

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as an ACO/EMD

  • MOH CACC Administrative Course preferred.

  • Position related experience preferred.

  • Advanced oral and written English skills.

  • Bilingualism preferred (French).

  • Demonstrated ability to follow written instructions.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality.

  • Effective conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent decision-making skills in a high stress environment.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Standard First Aid and Level C CPR.

  • Mental Health First Aid training preferred.

  • Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License.

  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.

  • Satisfactory criminal reference check required.
