The Opportunity: The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a Coordinator Business Applications Support to fill a permanent full-time position.  This position is responsible for the overall operational administration of the City’s major IT business application systems. This position will perform:

  1. Administration of the Information Technology business application systems portfolio;
  2. Administration of, and participation in, business systems development, integration, maintenance and support for clients;
  3. Project Management;
  4. Information Technology Administration.  

This position plays a key role in supporting the core IT functions of Application Portfolio Management, Application Architecture Management, Application Development Throughput, Project Portfolio Management, Release Management, Project Management, Business Analysis and Innovation.  

Top Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the IT Business Solutions Portfolio - Oversee administration, support, maintenance, and lifecycle management of business applications and systems.
  • Lead and Coordinate Application Systems Analysts - Prioritize workloads, assign resources, prepare work schedules, coordinate on-call coverage, and support employee work planning and assist with performance reviews.
  • Monitor Application Change Management - Review, approve, communicate, and monitor changes to production environments while ensuring adherence to established procedures and controls.
  • Ensure Application Quality, Security, and Compliance - Establish and maintain application security standards, quality assurance processes, testing protocols, documentation standards, and audit requirements.
  • Develop and Maintain Business Applications - Lead systems analysis, design, configuration/programming, testing, implementation, integration, maintenance, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Provide Business Systems Analysis and Client Support - Analyze business requirements, evaluate change requests, troubleshooting issues, recommend system and process improvements, and train end users.
  • Contribute to IT Strategic Planning and Budgeting - Support IT project planning, budgeting, technology roadmaps, systems architecture decisions, and business solutions strategy.
  • Assist with IT Projects - Lead IT projects from initiation through completion, including project charters, resource planning, stakeholder communication, vendor coordination, progress tracking, and project reporting.
  • Assist with Vendor and Stakeholder Relationships - Act as liaison with software vendors and client departments, negotiate services and solutions, and ensure business applications meet organizational needs and expectations.
  • Ensure Service Delivery and Operational Excellence - Support service level agreements (SLAs), monitor application performance, maintain service request and project records, and ensure adherence to IT standards, policies, and procedures.

 

As our preferred candidate, you will have:

  • Must have a recognized 2-year post-secondary Business or Technical degree or diploma. 
  • Must have 5 years’ experience in a comparable position:
    • which must include 2 years’ experience working with large volume business systems
    • working knowledge of enterprise class database systems
    • using desktop and project software
    • doing systems analysis, design and implementation
    • providing applications development, integration, support and maintenance in a medium sized environment
    • managing small to medium sized systems implementation and/or maintenance projects
    • communicating at various levels within medium sized organizations
  • Preferred additional experience:
    • coordinating work for other staff members
    • supporting major Enterprise Resource Planning systems
    • working in a municipal government environment
    • providing end user consulting and/or training
    • performing business process analysis and re-engineering
    • providing support to application developers
    • working knowledge of enterprise class database systems, hardware platforms and network management systems
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must have the ability to work with limited supervision.
    • Must have the ability to work in a demanding and frequently stressful environment
    • Must have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Information Technology staff, end-user department personnel and outside vendors & consultants.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communications
    • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required to attend offsite meetings and be able to perform field service calls.

Affiliation:   Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 417  Status:   Regular Full-time Remuneration:   $58.15 to $61.21 per hour  Hours of Work:   75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.

Additional Information:   The location of work is onsite at City Hall and other City Facilities.
