This posting will be used to fill 2 Casual positions. 1 fulltime position working 75 hours bi-weekly and 1 part-time position working 45 hours bi-weekly. Temporary Assignments may be considered with supervisor approval.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Our Team

Part of the Health and Social Services department, the Health Safety and Emergency Management unit is found within Corporate Services and leads the department in five key program areas: risk management, business continuity planning, occupational health and safety, health emergency management, and emergency support services (ESS). The emergency support systems require supplies which are housed in or handled by our warehouse facility in Whitehorse. This unit is agile and responsive to emergencies in the territory and plays a key role in preparedness and planning activities.

Your Role

The role of the Warehouse and Operations Support Worker is to provide basic warehouse operations, maintenance, and inventory control, as well as versatile operational support. This position requires flexibility to work interchangeably between warehouse duties and supporting health emergency and emergency support services operations. This may include delivery of supplies within the territory, or supporting individuals impacted by emergencies in their own communities.

Emergency response often requires 24/7 availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Warehouse and operations support worker may need to work irregular hours and be on-call to address emerging needs.

Essential qualifications

  • Experience working in a warehouse environment;
  • Experience processing shipments (both incoming and outgoing), record keeping and inventory management;
  • Experience operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, dolly, and operating a variety of hand and automated tools;
  • Experience assisting in coordinating front-line assistance delivery of emergency support services, operational supports, and implement emergency Health and Social Services delivery would be an asset; and
  • Experience working in the Incident Command System would be an asset.

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.

  • Must posses and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 driver's licence
  • WHMIS 2015 (to be obtained within one month of hire)

Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Willingness to work and travel to rural communities;
  • Working in adverse weather conditions;
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment and steel toed work boots;
  • Adhering to the safety program and all applicable policies and procedures;
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds; and
  • Willingness to work shift work and be on call for weekend and statutory holidays.
