Position Objective

Partner with Dept. Director to maintain and develop existing customer relationships and create new partnerships with prospective customers. This position creates new business through the effective management and execution of programs, reports, analytics, internal and external customer relationship management.

Works with management and the category team to ensure alignment on pricing and opportunities.

Executes all duties in accordance with the company's key performance indicators, business objectives, guiding values, policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service (Internal/External)

  • Foster new business through strong professional relationships and excellent customer service.
  • Conduct store visits to understand customer needs – know who you are selling to and how they operate.
  • Understand the business model and programs of existing customers.
  • Maintain professionalism; ensure a timely response to all customer calls and timely follow up to ensure satisfaction.
  • Maintain positive relationships with external and internal customers.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers in accordance with Company policies and procedures, and customer mandates, work with your and other departments to ensure accurate and timely execution on all deliverables.
  • Follow-up to ensure, all applicable departments understand the mandate, are clear on their deliverables and positioned to execute accordingly.
  • Enforce and practice existing policies and procedures to increase efficiencies, eliminate non-value added tasks, reduce costs and improve overall productivity
  • Conduct customer store visit and relay findings and learning to the team to continue to evolve understanding and capacity to deliver to the expectations set forth by the Company and the Customer.
  • Respond to all customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Follow up and resolve customer issues in accordance to position guidelines and scope.
  • Maintain proactive communication with Store Produce Managers.

Analytical Skills

  • Use analytics to support proposals for the implementation of new or evolving projects. Ensure all proposals have sustainable ROI and are legislatively compliant.
  • Implement lean six sigma practices within the department with streamlined focus on product quality and service delivery.
  • Prepare internal and external reports to forecast and measure the effectiveness of current programs.
  • Assist department management in analyzing the costing trends to be presented to category management.

Job Knowledge & Daily Operations

  • Review weekly files, customer planograms and opportunity buy proposals for strategic planning.
  • Collect and prepare market comparison files to assist in the preparation of programs and pricing.
  • Prepare weekly retail comparison for internal stakeholders to assess market trends and programs.
  • Review and run scheduled pricing and item reports for customers and internal groups and communicate accordingly.
  • Work with internal departments to review and manage opportunities or recommendations.
  • Stay up to date on market pricing and assortment of product.
  • Ensure good knowledge of company strategy and programs.
  • Ensure up to date knowledge on customers assortment and buying trends to assist in inventory planning and execution.
  • Understand the company's categories as it pertains to product flow, sales potential, product sell through opportunities.

  • Customer satisfaction, maintenance and growth of the business.
  • Ensure customers are aware of new offerings and programs through weekly communication and planning processes.
  • Customer issues are managed with minimal impact to the customers which results in maximized sales and reduced shrink
  • Ensure follow up and weekly communication with customers and accounts to offer additional services and capture upselling opportunities.
  • Ensure completion of internal sales trackers and distribute to executive team.
  • Work with management to preplan customer visits. Summarize key notes and plan of action.
  • Provide backup support for team members.
  • Complete required reports for internal and external customers.
  • Work with management to assess and identify opportunities for business growth within current customer profile.

Push for Results

  • Follow-up regularly with new and existing customers to ensure the Company is doing what it needs to maintain a positive and profitable relationship.
  • Effectively log and monitor success of sales programs, and report watch-outs to management to be assessed.
  • Work to ensure all tasks and processes are completed proactively and on time by all who impact customer service delivery.
  • Work with and assist other team members and departments to ensure problems are resolved quickly and efficiently and to ensure the daily effective execution of all assigned programs.

People Management

  • Maintain positive relationships with all customers to ensure business growth.
  • Follow-up with internal parties to ensure execution of all customer requirements.
  • Provide support and teaching opportunities to team members.


  • Consistently and effectively communicate the company mission, initiatives and objectives to customers, vendors and internal teams through organized and scheduled conference calls, meetings and email communications as required by the business.
  • Provide updates for internal teams in key areas of the business which include but is not limited to, Shipping/Receiving, CM Management, Quality Control, Packaging, etc.
  • Prepare presentations for internal and external customers inclusive of various options, costs and key features.
  • Communicate with internal teams and customers regarding facility opportunities, updates, challenges, and changes to ensure alignment on program objective achievement.
  • Ensure effective written and verbal communications via all channels including but not limited to reports, emails, calls, presentations, meetings, etc.
  • Ensure proactive communication to management and departments in areas of product flow and sell through opportunities.

Attention to detail

  • Manage dept. data ensuring accuracy, communication, and timely execution of all assigned reporting and analysis work.

Problem Solving

  • Collect information regarding customer needs and provide feedback to management.
  • Day-to-day management and resolution of program obstacles within the department.
  • Escalate and support the Dept. Director in the resolution of complex issues.


  • Complete tasks in accordance with company policies, procedures and food safety regulations.



  • College or University with a focus in business management

​Experience & Knowledge

  • Intermediate level knowledge on MS Office- Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities
  • 3-5 years of working within a produce industry. Familiarity with terms used within the industry
  • 3-5 years of customer service.
  • Retail operation experience asset
  • Basic Math skills required
  •  3-5 years in account management function within fast-paced food retail, wholesale or services environment preferred
  • Professional and customer service focused
  • 3-5 years' experience working in a wholesale or retail environment (Food or Fresh Produce experience, an asset)
  • Strong communication skills; written and oral
  • Results oriented
  • Fast paced learner
  • Valid drivers' licenses and person vehicle as requirement to travel between locations.
  • 1-3 years' experience customer account support role (planning, programs, pricing, analysis, etc.)
  • 1-3 years' experience working within inside sales, corporate account management considered to be an asset.
